How can I stop them?<\/span><\/h5>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>*The urge to binge eat doesn\u2019t have to dictate\u00a0your behaviors.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hi Jessica,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That\u2019s a really good question. In recovery, we don\u2019t really \u201cstop\u201d urges, learn how to react differently to them. In addiction, when you have an urge or a craving, you believe that you have to act on that urge or craving. However, when you learn to recover, you learn that the urge is just an urge and that you don\u2019t have to follow it down the rabbit hole. Urges are nothing to be afraid of or to be worried about, everyone has them. The difference between someone who is compulsive and someone who is not though, is whether or not they choose to act on all of their urges. When an urge comes up, it feels like there is no choice,<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bingeeatingtherapy.com\/2014\/10\/mindfulness-to-help-binge-eating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">but there actually is. \u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The very first thing to do is to look at your urge to binge and ask yourself, \u201cam I actually hungry?\u201d If you are, then ask your body \u201cand what is it that we need to give you to nurture you?\u201d \u00a0If you\u2019re not hungry, you can remember, \u201cokay this is an urge, I don\u2019t have to let the urge lead me, I can choose to use the wisdom of my intact adult brain.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/recover.thinkific.com\/courses\/hypnosis-to-stop-binge-eating\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This meditation can help you with that too.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As you begin to react to your urges in \u00a0a way that feels appropriate, you don\u2019t have to be afraid of them.
